Officers. The Good The Bad & The ugly
I had the privilege of knowing some real Jerks and some real Heroes in Viet Nam as a doorgunner.
Because of Combat-related Amnesia I cannot remember the name or face of the Officer-Pilot of our Ch47 who saved our lives by evading all forms of enemy fire by flying over and between huge trees at 200 knots while we were taking fire from NVA around Kontum in 1972. The Co-Pilot was screaming over the intercom how he was going to have the Pilot Court Martialed if we lived. We were interrogated upon arrival at our Base Camp while removing tree branches from our landing gear. Our Pilot was cleared of any wrong-doing.
Thank you Sir for keeping us alive.
The above is ONE memory I am thankful for.
