Fighting Flares Again Near Phnom Penh
PHNOM PENH (AP) --The Cambodian high command reported 2 of its soldiers were killed and 10 wounded Saturday close to the village of Prek Cruk only 10 miles southeast of the capital in a battle in which aircraft were unable to hit the Communist force because of tropical downpour.
The high command said that sweeping operations were continuing 10 miles northwest of Phnom Penh where younger brother of President Lon Nol, Col. Lon Nol, is conducting a sweep to head off heavy attack on the capital predicted by his brother in a radio speech earlier this week.
A spokesman said the launching site for Soviet-made 122mm rockets fired at Phnom Penh during recent assaults had been uncovered by Khmer troops. He added that the village of Bat Doeung, scene of heavy fighting several months ago, was hit by 82mm mortar and recoilless rifle shells Friday night.
The spokesman said he had no reports of Cambodian casualties from any of the points where the fighting was reported.
