War Ends For 101st

WASHINGTON --The 101st Airborne Div. (Airmobile), one of the Army's most famous fighting units, will officially return home Thursday from the Vietnam war.

Colors of the Screaming Eagle Div. will officially arrive at the unit's new home at Fort Campbell, Ky., after more than four years of combat in Vietnam.

During the day-long homecoming ceremony Maj. Gen. Thomas M. Tarpley will turn over command of the unit to Maj. Gen. John H. Cushman. Cushman at present heads the Army Training Center and Fort Campbell.

Following the command change, the 4,000 men of the former 173rd Airborne Brigade, who now make up the division's 3rd Brigade, will pass in review.

Demonstrations and exhibitions of some of the unit's arms and equipment, including an airborne drop, a helicopter flyby and sky diving will take place later in the day.

The division's new museum will also be dedicated and a memorial service will be held in the post chapel to honor the airborne troopers who died in action in Europe in World War II and in Vietnam.

When the division is brought up to strength the Army said it will have about 17,000 officers and enlisted men and 422 helicopters.
