Navy Sank 7 Boats Off N. Vietnam

SAIGON (UPI) --The U.S. Navy disclosed Friday that American ships early this month sank seven North Vietnamese supply boats plying between ports in North Vietnam.

The "logistical waterborne craft" included junks and large sampans, a Navy spokesman said.

The U.S. command had announced the sinking of five North Vietnamese torpedo patrol (PT) boats and the damaging of two others threatening U.S. ships in North Vietnamese waters, but made no mention of the supply boats.

The small boats carry various cargoes including military supplies from one port to another up and down North Vietnam's coastline.

The Navy spokesman said all boats were sunk and there were no known survivors in the actions. He refused to say exactly when the actions took place, except that they were in the first half of April.
