Military Career

Commissioned as a regular army infantry 2LT from Washington & Lee University ROTC program in 1961. After a tour in Germany as platoon leader and brigade level staff officer returned to Ft. Lewis, Washington as Commander, HHC, 3d Brigade, 4th Infantry Division. Deployed to Vietnam and after a month in country assumed command of B Co. 3d Bn 22d Infantry and remained with the Company six months being reassigned for the completion of my tour to G3, HQ 25th Infantry Division. After schooling in the states was assigned to Alaska as Commander, 172d Support Battalion, 172d Infantry Brigade. Assigned as Assistant IG 23d Infantry Division at the beginning of my second tour in Vietnam and completed the second half of that tour as XO, 3d Bn, 1st Inf. Returned to the states for advanced military and civilian schooling at the Armed Forces Staff College and Duke University which was followed by a tour as Assistant Professor of Military Science at the University of Rhode Island and as Professor of Military Science at the University of Virginia and James Madison University. Commanded 3d Bn, 1st Infantry Training Brigade at Fort Benning, Georgia, followed by service as Inspector General, 1st Corps Support Command at Fort Bragg. Graduated from the Army War College and completed last overseas assignment as TRADOC liaison officer to Commander US Army Europe which was followed by completing active duty as Senior Advisor to the 80th Division (Tng).

Civilian Career

Was employed as administrator for a small faith based not for profit in the city of Richmond, VA and continue to serve as a volunteer for a faith based not for profit which provides transitional housing for homeless or abused women and their children in the metropolitan Richmond area.
