Jack, I appreciate all that you offered me, it is beyond expectation. Thank You!!
I thank you with all my heart for the work you are doing and the time you are taking to pass along this information to me. You have provided very valuable insight and an understanding I can pass along to my children about their grandfather. I will let you know when the information arrives.
I remember a noble sadness in my father's eyes. I keep him in my thoughts and prayers.
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he's willing to fight, nothing he cares about more than his own personal safety is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill
Regards, the Son of a soldier who fought in the Battle of Kontum
REFLECTIONS: The legacy we leave behind will be measured in the hearts and minds of those who loved us. This son's story of his father and "the noble sadness in his father's eyes" speaks to the pain felt by this man and his family. Many times as I have held my own grandchildren I am aware of the gift I have been given and others lost. I know that the lives of my children would have been much different had I been a casualty of that War. I am glad that in some small way this web site has given back what might have been lost for this man and his family.
