This is a pic of the Kontum terminal area viewed from the north looking south. There are a number of aircraft visible. The VNAF A-1E was damaged while attacking a target north of Kontum, and while landing, shot up again! Although the pilot landed the aircraft, it was damaged beyond repair and abandoned.

Of note, the terminal area was used by a few helicopters, but no military cargo aircraft. Throughout the latter half in 1972, C-130s continued to take incoming rocket fire and would offload "on the roll," never parking.
