May 16, 2024 Luncheon

Posted by Leo Cooney on 16:15:11 05/18/24

We had a very successful luncheon at Emmily's in Johnston, RI on Thursday, May 16. The rain let up enough for us to get in and out of the restaurant without problems. Emmily's has a newly renovated conference room, and one of our waitresses was Emmily, the granddaughter of the owner and namesake of the restaurant. She is a 2022 graduate of La Salle and has a brother at the school at present. We were well taken care of.

We were delighted to have 18 of our classmates present for his event: Bill Warburton, Rob Sclama, Leo Lariviere, Harold Devine, Jerry Crowley, Chuck Gaffney, Peter Negri, Frank Sullivan, Larry Natale, Jim Crowley, Bruce Gilmore, Richard Larkin, Kerry King, Dennis Gannon, John Robinson, Joe Mollicone, Ken Dion, and Leo Cooney.

Ken Dion was the star, as he arrived directly from a medical facility after undergoing a procedure (not a rare event for members of the class of 1961- we had 2 wheelchairs and a walker)

Nonetheless, our focus was on life after La Salle and the present, trying to avoid discussion of medical problems. We all found La Salle to be a solid foundation for our professional and personal lives. We had a total of 18 classmates present - 4 high school teachers, 3 physicians, 2 lawyers, 2 businessmen, 2 realtors, 1 insurance agent, 1 deputy dean of a law school, 1 superintendent of schools, 1 president of an insurance company, and 1 practicing CPA.

I think that most of us find these lunches to be an easy way to keep in contact with classmates and stimulate memories and reflections of some special years on Academy Avenue some time ago. We will meet again in the autumn.

We all appreciate the pictures Frank Sullivan has taken for these luncheons. Next time we will get some pictures of him. Thank you Frank!
