My Life after La Salle
When I graduated from La Salle, I like many of our classmates was a bit unsure "what to do with the rest of my life." Fortunately, I had some good counseling and direction that led me on a long journey into the seminary to study for the priesthood. I was ordained for the Diocese of Providence in 1971 - yeah 50 years ago this past May!
After a brief four-month first assignment at St. Mary of the Bay, Warren, I was transferred to St. Joseph's, Newport, where I remained for the next five years - three of those five years I was also Chaplain at Roger Williams College (University) Bristol. In 1976, I was assigned Director of the Catholic Center and Chaplain to the University of Rhode Island where I had the unique pleasure to serve for 13 years. Best assignment ever!
Following a sabbatical in Washington, DC, I returned to Providence and was appointed pastor of St. William's, Warwick for seven years; pastor of St. Paul's, Edgewood for eight years; and finally, to pastor of St. Barnabas, Portsmouth, for nine years, retiring in 2013 as Pastor Emeritus. I have been extremely blessed in my priesthood with the presence of many wonderful, talented and faithful people. One could not ask for anything more.
Although retired from administration, I am still active in serving parishes in the South County area, living in my "hut" in Charlestown on land that my family purchased in 1934. It's been a great pleasure serving the people of RI as priest both on the parochial and diocesan level as a member of the Priests' Counsel, Board of Consulters, Diocesan Director of Campus Ministry, Priests' Personnel Board, etc. God has truly blessed me and I am most grateful for the having the privilege of serving His people.
