Why did I write my book?

My purpose in writing my book THUNDER: Stories From the First Tour is to honor all those who served in the Vietnam War in the cause of freedom, both Americans and South Vietnamese. My hope is that their sacrifices will not be forgotten and that those who gave their lives in that noble effort to preserve the freedom of the people of the Republic of South Vietnam will be honored for their ultimate sacrifice.
Second, I want to educate people about the Vietnam War so that they have a better understanding about the events of that period. Through my Battle of Kontum website, I hope people will gain insights about that battle and the Vietnam War in general, so they are able to more accurately discern the truthfulness of the narratives from that period.
Third, I hope that my book will create for the reader a sense of what it was like to be a combat helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War.
The future belongs to our children and grandchildren. My prayer is that they never have to endure the kind of pain and sacrifice that characterized the Vietnam War years for so many Americans. It is through knowledge and understanding that we grow. Without facing the history that brought us all to where we are now, we will not be able to grow as a people, nor as a person.
