Nobody really knows but he probably died in Tan Canh. I interviewed Col (MG Ret) Phil Kaplan for my book Kontum: The Battle to Save South Vietnam. He never saw or heard of Dat after the day Tan Canh fell. There is a photo of Kaplan and Dat at Tanh Canh in my book.
