antitank weapons

I could be wrong, but from what i heard and read on several biography that at the time the ARVN did not recieve proper weapons do fight against the NVA Russian made T-54 tanks. The US just started to equipped them with M-72 anti tank not too long before . Which caused chaos and morale drop within the troops early in the battles during the Eastern Offensive. i'd appreciate any input on this.
